32 Leaf Tree
Following the initial efforts with the 16 Leaf Tree, 32 Leaves has a more articulated leaf and a smaller form factor. The leaves are mounted at 45° angles here and the piece is highly polished. One of the huge differences between Kinetic and static sculpture has to do with how the surroundings respond to a piece - the appeal is not just the elements of a sculpture but how the space around the sculpture changes and reacts as the piece moves. This video is a great example, as reflected light moves and flashes across the building and into the trees around the piece. This installation site is narrow with tight buildings and heavy tree cover - the sun only lit and hit the piece as shown in the video for about 45 minutes per day.
